Reforestation
Osprey Silivculture has a proven track record of providing strong organization and excellent employment conditions in this challenging industry. Many of our supervisors have been with us for several years and we have deployed throughout the province since 1987.
Wildland Fire Suppression
Our Company has had a standing offer contract with the Ministry of Forests since 2010. We currently have Fire bases located in the Prince George and Coastal Fire Centers. To date we have trained over 600 Wildland Fire Fighters for work in BC. We have been deployed to many of the worst BC fires in recent memory. This includes large crews in Fort St. John, Prince George and the Elaho Valley. In 2018 we had 110 firefighters deployed at one time, and our crews received consistently good reviews.
Firesmart and Fuel Abatement Projects
Wildfire is a natural part of our landscape and effectively managing vegetation can help reduce the risk of wildfire. Trees, woody vegetation, and dry grassy areas are typically considered to be types of fuel for wildfire. Managing vegetation can lessen the risk of wildfire. Reduction of fire danger in fuels capable of supporting fast-spreading, high-intensity fires often requires significant intervention—removal, reduction, or conversion of on-site fuels.
Our company was awarded the contract for 95 hectares of Fire Smarting work in Fort Mcmurray over the winter of 2016/2017 and we’ve also been providing Fall and Burn crews in the Grande Prairie area since 2015. We are eager to continue with Firesmart work, utilizing our company’s strong skillset to improve the safety of forests bordering communities vulnerable to the danger of interface wildfires.
